About Dr. Vanessa Barnes Bey

Dr. Barnes Bey was born and raised in the city of Asbury Park, New Jersey. She is deeply rooted in traditions taught by her grandmother, Shirley May Barnes whose primary method of healing were to talk things through in a healthy way using sacred moral teachings from her ancestral lineage. She stands on the shoulders of mothers who nurtured generations . Dr Barnes Bey uses all methods of traditional healing and resources that stem from her rich illustrious lineage of aboroginal indigenous ancestors. Dr . Barnes Bey is a moral nurturer at best.

Dr Barnes Bey is  is a graduate of the Brookdale Community College, where she started and began broadening her passion for helping people solve problems. It was there she attended and was the first and only student from her home town to participate in the international study abroad program in Guayaquil, Ecuador.  Inspired by her late counselor, she was accepted into the Educational Opportunity Fund program where she attended Kean University and studied social work. Dr. Barnes Bey was awarded the cum laude and a bachelor’s degree in social work in 2004 from Kean University. Dr. Barnes Bey went on to work with the city of Asbury Park, New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services as a family service specialist. In that same year, she received an invitation to attend Fordham University. In 2006, Dr. Barnes Bey was accepted into the advanced standing Master of Social Work program at Fordham University in Lincoln Center, New York. She graduated while also eight months into her first pregnancy. She continued work and joined with a program called The Youth Success Network providing behavior modification support. In 2006, she also received her school social worker license from the state of New Jersey. Dr. Barnes Bey has practiced generalist social work for 17 years in the areas of; family intervention, behavior modification, school social work, human services, peer mediation, correctional social work, family preservation, school individual counseling, schooling group counseling, and case management. Dr. Barnes purpose is to inspire and uplift everyone.
